Severe Storm Wreaks Havoc at NYSC Orientation Camp in Yikpata

A severe rainstorm has caused extensive damage to property worth millions of naira at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

Mr. Oladapo Morakinyo, NYSC Public Relations Officer for Kwara State, confirmed the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, 26 April 2025, with the storm inflicting significant structural and material damage.

Key structures affected include the administrative block, camp mosque, market, kitchen, and multipurpose hall. Several vehicles belonging to staff members were also damaged, with roofs torn off and a large tree uprooted. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

Following the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa, alongside the Etsu of Tsaragi, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi, visited the camp to assess the extent of the destruction.
