Kwara Polytechnic Unbundles HND Mass Communication and Computer Science
As reported by Daily Post, the management of Kwara State Polytechnic has announced the unbundling of the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Mass Communication and Computer Science, which were previously offered as combined courses in polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide.
The decision, made in compliance with the directive from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), is aimed at improving the quality and relevance of technical education. It will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
Rector Abdul Jimoh Mohammed stated that the unbundling will help meet the growing demands of the global information, communication, and technology industries while producing diplomats with specialized knowledge and skills in areas of national needs.
He explained that the unbundling will also allow students to dive deeper into their chosen field and develop the specialized skills employers are looking for.
Abdul disclosed that with the development, Mass Communication and Computer Science as a programme ceased to exist at the Higher National Diploma ((HND) level.
In a related development, the Rector has approved the appointment of new heads for the new programmes that will spring up from Mass Communication and Computer Science.
Yissa Idris Olohuntoyin is the Head of Journalism and Media Studies, Opaleke Enoch Abimbola, Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Dr Dada O. M., Networking and Cloud Computing while Olajide Anthony Taiwo will head the Software and Web Development unit.
Meanwhile, Fatiu Olohungbebe and Oluwafemi Oyedepo, remain the Heads of the Mass Communication and Computer Science departments respectively at National Diploma (ND) level; as well as the last HND 2 of the two departments.
The Rector assured that all necessary resources and support will be provided to the new departments to ensure effective implementation of the new programmes.
