Kwara NULGE alleges sack of 500 workers

Date: 2013-01-19

The Kwara State chapter of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has alleged what it described as systematic retrenchment of workers and punitive posting of its officials by the local government service commission.

State Secretary of the union, Comrade Abayomi Afolabi, who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin yesterday, alleged that over 500 workers have been laid off. He said the biometric data capture exercise carried out by the state government since 2012 had not addressed the raging problem of unpaid salary arrears.

However, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Alhaji Sulaima Kayode Yusuf said the sack was not true.

He said, “As far as Kwara State Government is concerned under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, he has made it clear that there was no directive to all the local governments in Kwara state to sack any civil servant be it in the state or at the local government level.”
