AFCON 2013: Kwara Pillar of Sports Tasks Eagles

Date: 2013-01-13

Kwara State Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, has charged the Super Eagles of Nigeria to do the country proud by winning the Nations Cup in South Africa. Chief Ejidike, in a press statement made available to Sunday Sunsports by the Chairman, Office of Kwara State Pillar of Sports, Prince Olayioye Olusola Ajide, stated that Nigerians were looking unto the Coach Stephen Keshi-tutored Eagles to bring back the Nations Cup trophy, which the country had won only two times (1980 and 1994) since its inception.

He noted that the national team has all it takes to lift the trophy in South Africa considering the calibre of players in the squad, even as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had done well in supporting and motivating the team to perform at the showpiece, which will commence this month.

The sports philanthropist further urged the federal government, through the Ministry of Sports, to rally support for the Eagles and advised that if possibly, the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, should not only speak with the players, but also pay a special visit to the Eagles' camp in South Africa when hostilities get underway.

He called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the national team and to try always to speak positive things that could boost the morale of the players and their officials during the championship.

"As the giant of Africa, we should always occupy the front seat, even in sports. And since sports is a unifying factor in Nigeria, we should all speak with one voice and cheer our national team to victory when the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations kicks of in South Africa," Ejidike advised, even as he hopes that Eagles' outing in the Rainbow nation would be fruitful.
