ACN Hails Candidate's Victory in Kwara
The Kwara State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria has described as a victory for democracy, the Supreme Court's unanimous judgment reinstating the sacked chairman of Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State, Mr. Dele Abiodun.
In a statement on Tuesday, the state's ACN Chairman, Mr. Kayode Olawepo, said the judgment was a confirmation that the judiciary was the last hope of the common man.
He alleged that Abiodun was summarily dismissed without fair hearing by the Bukola Saraki administration for "no other sin than his challenge of the illegal deduction of funds accruing to his council from the Federation Account."
Olawepo said, "Abiodun heard of his dismissal on Radio Kwara without any prior letter to that effect. Later, his councillors were coerced to do a kangaroo impeachment and Abiodun was, in what was akin to the Joshua Dariye saga, sent away from the seat to which the people of the council had elected him.
"But, like the courts below had affirmed, the Supreme Court said an emphatic no to that action of Bukola Saraki's administration in Kwara."
He commended Abiodun for his courage, belief in the rule of law and dogged fight for justice and fairness.
Olawepo urged the Kwara State Government pay all the entitlements and the arrears due to Abiodun as an elected chairman without delay.
