Kwara House moves to curb harbouring of Yahoo boys by hoteliers
The Kwara State House of Assembly has asked Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq to direct the state Ministry of Communications to embark on sensitisation of hoteliers on the danger of harbouring Yahoo boys in their facilities in the state.
The House also advised the ministry to interface with the hoteliers on the development.
This was part of a resolution by the House, on a matter of general public importance, raised by the House leader, Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin (Ilorin Central), at the plenary.
The House Leader relied on Order VII, Rule 40 of the House Rules to draw the attention of the House to the need to caution owners and operators of hotels in Kwara State on the dangers inherent in harbouring Yahoo-Yahoo fraudsters in their hotels.
Hon. Magaji noted the importance of the advent of social media by transforming the entire world into a global village where people interact and communicate without much hindrance.
The House leader, however, observed that “despite the enormous advantages, some youths have turned its usage to perpetuate nefarious activities including defrauding innocent people of their hard earned resources, especially money and other personal effects.”
Hon. Magaji expressed concern about the “involvement of hoteliers who have turned themselves to patrons of these fraudsters by allowing them to stay in their premises for a very long period after paying huge sums of money to lodge in their facilities.”
