Ex Gov Ahmed's watch on UBEC funds', another sad chapter

Date: 2019-07-01

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara state chapter has described the rebuttal by the immediate past Government on mismanagement of the over one billion Naira Universal Basic Education (UBEC) fund as another sad chapter in the life of the last administration considering the contrived problems heaped upon the state by the successive governments in the last 16 years.

In a statement issued in Ilorin today, the party stated that the UBEC funds scandal was part of the deceit visited upon the state by the past administration.

" There is no doubt that a major manipulation was done in diverting the counterpart fund and access only the UBEC funds without counter part- funding any project.

" These unsavoury developments probably was responsible for the inability of Ahmed's government from participating in the home grown school feeding programme because of its inability to pay the counterpart fund for the programme.

"Regrettably, the rot in the last government is deeper than the issue of UBEC funds mismanagement. Whatever amount of money accruing to the state was 'escorted' home and either develops wings or ends up being used for projects that are of little or no benefit to the people.

" Without doubt, the reality confronting all of us is that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq inherited a failed state. The cost of these unpatriotic acts could be seen in the inability to deliver water despite incurring billions of Naira on its reticulation project, dilapidated classrooms all over the state, poor health facilities and many more.

" It is in this light the APC sees former Governor Ahmed's defense as futile attempt at defending the indefensible. The blacklisting of Kwara State from accessing UBEC funds is just one of the several sad chapters of his government.
