The Federal Government has expressed concern over the importation of unfortified sugar from Brazil to Nigeria and has directed the standards organization of Nigeria (SON) to rid the country of it.

SON Confiscates Adulterated Sugar In Kwara To this end, the kwara state office of son led by its coordinator, Esther Okon has confiscated fifty bags of unfortified sugar and sealed six stores in the business of repackaging rice harmful to Nigerians in Ilorin, kwara state.

Sugar is one vital ingredients found in most Nigerian homes. It is rich in vitamin 'A' which is good for the eyes.

Lack of it can cause diarrhea in children. However, the federal government has raised alarm over the circulation of unfortified sugar, which has led to the seizure of about fifty bags in Ilorin by son in kwara state.

SON also sealed stores that deal with repackaged rice that are unhygienic the owners claimed ignorance.

The SON coordinator in kwara state, Esther Okon warned that importers and distributors of substandard products would be arrested and prosecuted.
