'We Welcome Healthy Competition' - KWBC GM
The General Manager of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Abdullateef Adedeji, has described the emergence of new broadcasting stations in the state as a positive index for the state.
He stated this while welcoming a delegation of the Unilorin 89.3FM that visited the corporation.
Stressing the importance of competition, Mr Adedeji noted that although Radio Kwara was ahead in terms of age, both broadcasting houses still have a lot to learn from each other.
"We have our strength that no radio station can match; we are not rivalling you on 24hrs broadcasting, if that is your unique selling point (USP), we leave that gladly to you because that is not our direct focus for now", the Radio Kwara boss said, adding that "What we want to do is to welcome healthy competition and that is why from the onset, we have opened up our mind, and this has helped us to be more focused."
The General Manager, who expressed appreciation for the visit of the Unilorin FM team, said, "We cannot just claim to be the perfect leader and sit down; we know we have to continuously reinvent ourselves to remain number one. So, we welcome you."
Earlier in his remarks, the Unilorin 89.3 FM Station Manager, Mr Abdulganiyu Durodola, who disclosed that the University of Ilorin radio station was established for the purpose of functional education, expressed the optimism that it would catch up soon with other media establishments in the state given the quality programmes it churns out to its listeners.
Tracing the history of the first campus station to run 24-hour transmission, Mr. Durodola said the station is endowed with state-of-the-arts equipment for qualitative broadcasting. He said that the visit to Radio Kwara was to ensure that both media houses are partners in progress.
Other members of the Unilorin FM team on the visit include the Assistant Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Uthman Abolarin, Mrs. Fatima Abubakre, Mr Abdulgaffar Arikewuyo, Mrs Mary Kolawole, Miss Precious Okeowo and Mr Tope Omoniyi.
