The Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has denied that he plans to hold a 'special convocation' to enable him to preside over the graduation ceremony of outgoing students before the end of his tenure.

He said: "as a matter of tradition, the University does not celebrate individuals but collective achievements.

"Whoever is the new Vice-Chancellor, no matter how new he is on the seat, would statutorily preside over the convocation ceremonies," Oloyede said.

Oloyede said the University has graduated 5,383 persons in various disciplines in the 2011/2012 academic session.

The number includes 36 persons, who obtained first class degrees, Oloyede told newsmen.

He said the Senate of the university had approved the results at its 227th sitting.

The vice-chancellor said the Senate approved 4, 686 first degrees and 679 post- graduate degrees as well as 18 diplomas from the Institute of Education.

He said a breakdown of the result showed that 871 students passed in second class upper division, 2, 297 had second class lower division, 1, 120 passed in third class, while 287 had ordinary pass degrees.

Oloyede said the Faculty of Science recorded 11 first class graduates, while Faculty of Agriculture and Business and Social Sciences produced seven first class graduates each.

He urged members of the university community to cooperate with the Vice- Chancellor-designate, Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali, and other principal officers.

He urged staff and students to always have a positive disposition toward the institution so that it would continue to excel among other institutions.
