VC seeks help as UnIlorin awards degrees, diplomas to 8,000

Date: 2016-10-22

The University of Ilorin yesterday awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates to over 8,000 students of the institution at its 32nd convocation ceremony. Sixty-seven students made first class honours,1,505 made second class upper division, 3,200 had second class lower, 1,124 got third class while 70 students got pass.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, said on the occasion that education was too important to be left in the hands of government alone, hence the need for wealthy individuals and well spirited Nigerians to complement government's efforts through partnership to enhance the standard of education in the country.

"I call on good spirited Nigerians to come and partner with the university and contribute to making life on campus better for our teeming students. We want more of such interventions as made by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas(NLNG) through the $2m Engineering Research Center commissioned in July this year, from corporate and individual Nigerians.

"In essence, the university is keenly interested in expanding its facilities and increasing its capacity to cater for several thousands of Nigerian students who knock at our gate for admission each year.Such interventions may come in the form of provision of lecture theatres, classrooms, hostels, blocks of offices, endowment of chairs, research sponsorships and grants to our staff and students," he said.
