Saraki at CCT with 90 lawyers

Date: 2016-04-06

Ninety lawyers on Wednesday announced their appearance for Senate President Bukola Saraki, an increase in the number of lawyers that appeared for him previously at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

On Tuesday, 51 lawyers had announced their appearance for him. On March 18, 81 lawyers, including six Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) had announced their appearance for Saraki at the CCT.

On March 11, 66 lawyers had also announced their appearance for the senate president. But on Wednesday, Kanu Agabi (SAN), Saraki's lead counsel, reeled off 90 names, including that of four senior lawyers.

Jocularly, he told Danladi Umar, chairman of the tribunal, that he would go down in history as one of the judges before whom the highest number lawyers appeared.

Agabi was absent on Tuesday, but Paul Usoro (SAN), one of Saraki's lawyers held brief for him. The trial had progressed at the time of his arrival.
