Vigilance group arrests driver,30, for allegedly absconding with employer's vehicle, goods
A 30-year-old driver, Jamiu Lukman, who allegedly absconded with his employer's vehicle and goods has been arrested by members of the Unity Vigilance group in Oko, a suburb of Kwara.
Lukman, allegedly declared wanted by the Police 'A' Division in Ilorin, absconded with the vehicle loaded with bags of sachet water on Oct. 28.
The Commander of the group, Mr Omoniyi Babalola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspect was arrested on Sunday following a tip off.
Babalola said the suspect, claiming ownership of the vehicle, had solicited the assistance of an automobile apprentice in the town to manage the vehicle for him.
He said that the suspect packed the vehicle at a mechanic workshop and lied to the apprentice that he had family problems.
The commander said that Lukman was arrested on his way to the mechanic workshop and handed over to the Omu-Aran Police Division.
Mr Lateef Olabisi, the Commander of Unity Vigilante Group in Irepodun Local Government Area, said the feat was because of the cordial relationship between the group and the police.
Olabisi also attributed the series of achievement in curbing criminal and criminality by the group to the support and assistance of the council Chairman, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa.
He said that a member of the group had single-handily overpowered an armed robber during an attack on banks in Omu-Aran on May 14, 2013 and collected his AK47.
Olabisi pledged the readiness of the group to ensure adequate security of life and property, and urged the commercial banks that had closed their branches to re-open.
"We owed our achievement to the dedication of our members and more importantly the support of the Irepodun council chairman, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa and other community leaders," Olabisi said. (NAN)
