Revenue generation in Kwara is average - FIRS
The tax Controller of Ilorin micro and small tax office, Alh. Aliyu Mahe, has rated the revenue generation in Kwara state to be on the average saying the state is more a civil service state where they depend largely on contractors to generate tax.
Mahe said this in Ilorin while speaking with Daily Trust where he analyzed some of the challenges hindering their work in the state.
"Difficulties being experienced in the collection of tax are the same all the time and there are so many challenges. One is from the part of the tax payers who are not willing to comply with the dictates of the tax law and always negate our performance while other group of tax payers collect BAT on behalf of the government but refuse to remit same.
We also have an intermediary between the tax administration and the tax payers who are professional consultants who prepare the tax return for the tax payers and file same on behalf of their clients but we discovered that most of the information they provided are half baked and not a true statement of the position. They short changed the profession they represent and the tax administration while we also face difficulty in getting to tax payers who are far away from the city centres such as Kaiama, Baruten etc in the state," Mahe said.
On the rate of the state in term of revenue generation, the Controller said "Kwara state tax collection rate is average because most of the tax payers here rely on contracts from government; they are on general contract because the state is a civil service state.
