Kwara Scholarship Board Pledges to Pay Bursary Arrears

The Kwara State Scholarship Board has pledged to pay all outstanding arrears of bursaries and scholarships to students in the state within the shortest possible time.

In a statement issued by its Executive Secretary, Alhaji Fatai Lamidi, the board said the delay in the payment of bursary was due to the financial crisis facing the state and the nation at large. The board however gave the assurance that the State Government will resolve the problem as soon as the State is financially buoyant to do so.

Speaking further, Alhaji Lamidi emphasized that the payment of bursary is a privilege and not the right of any student in the state. He added that while state government is determined to alleviate the suffering of the affected students in tertiary institutions, it is also mindful of payment of outstanding salaries of civil servants and pensioners in the state.

The Executive Secretary however stated that the government is giving serious consideration to the issue with a view to a resolving it.
