Sen. Saraki, 7 other Senate committee chairmen fail to provide reports
The plenary session of the Senate witnessed a mild drama yesterday as eight committees expected to present reports failed to do so.
The report on the Prisons Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2011 could not be presented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Atiku Abubakar (PDP, Kebbi Central); while the report on the Erosion Control and Prevention Commission (Establishment) 2012 was also not provided by the Chairman of the Committee on Environment and Ecology, Senator Abubakar Saraki (PDP, Kwara Central).
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP, Taraba South) also failed to provide the report on the establishment of the National Grazing Reserve Commission; with Senator Ayogu Eze (PDP, Enugu North) equally failing to produce his Works Committee's report on the Rock Blasting Regulation Bill 2012.
The report on the social housing bill expected to be laid by the Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim (ANPP, Yobe East) was not available; while the Chairman of the Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Paulinus Igwe (PDP, Ebonyi Central) also failed to produce the report on the Police Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2012.
Senator Gyang Dantong (PDP, Plateau North) also disappointed the Senate by failing to provide the report on the Sickle Cell (Prevention, Control and Management Bill) 2012 expected to have been produced by his Committee on Health.
It was the same story from the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Ayo Adeseun (ACN, Oyo Central), who failed to provide the report on the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (Amendment) Bill 2012.
