OPC Will Wax Stronger After President Jonathan

Date: 2015-05-21

The Odua Peoples Congress(OPC) in Kwara State has insisted that after the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Congress would continue to wax stronger.

The Congress which condemned the claimes of the a group under the guises of Agbekoya that it would face out the Congress and Afenifere in the Yoruba land said the group lack memory of history and did not remember most of odd period both OPC and Afenifere had passed and survived in Nigeria.

The Congress in a statement made available to Daily Times, in Ilorin on Wednesday by the Kwara state Cordinator of the OPC,Comrade Abdulsalam Maruf noted that the group are faceless and could not claim of any developmental projects on the people of Yoruba.

"The attention of the Oodua People's Congress has been drawn to a media release from a group of faceless Agbekoya members , who erroneously professed that the Oodua People' s Congress and the pan Yoruba group- Afenifere have lost relevance.

"Ordinarily , we would have disregard this hatchet job from the Ajeromi Ifelodun , Lagos State based group of people , who have found great pleasure in licking the boots of their political paymaster but for the sake of posterity and to prevent millions of Yoruba sons and daughters from being misinformed , we decided to respond to the media balderdash.

"Let us begin by calling the attention of the public to disregard the activities of this group of people . Their formation and operations have not in any way demonstrated the dream , vision and the strong commitment of the authentic Akoro , Ibadan , Oyo State Agbekoya.

"Let this group of people come out and tell the world of their contribution to the development of agriculture and the welfare of the general populace .Have they ever staged any meaningful festival , symposium or workshop on the development of agriculture ?".

The Kwara state OPC Coordinator also noted that members of the Lagos based Agbekoya have always waited for their paymaster to pay them , before coming out to issue press statement to discredit those , who they consider as opposing to their paymasters .

He said that the claim by the Lagos Agbekoya was nothing but an indication and a reflection to their ignorance of history or a deliberate attempt to distort history for the purpose of satisfying the ego of their paymaster.

"The group hinged their shortsightedness on the result of the last general election , where they imagined that the failure of president Goodluck Jonathan to retain the presidential seat , symbolizes the end of OPC or Afenifere.

"To put the record straight, the relevance of the OOdua People's Congress and the Afenifere has never been tied to , whoever becomes the president of Nigeria or which party wins the election. Students of history will attest to the fact that Afenifere continued to wax stronger , despite the fact that their party did not win the presidential elections.

"The case of OPC , which is even more recent shows that since that since 1994 , when it was founded , it has never relied on the support of the government in power to liberate the people from the military rule and to propagate the Yoruba race.

The Lagos Agbekoya should henceforth desist from maligning the names of the Oodua Peoples Congress and Afenifere in their bid to satisfy the insatiable desire of their paymaster to have everybody under his foot".
