There was ?a ?mild drama on the popular Emir road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday afternoon?,? as supporters ???of? the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, waylaid him and only dispersed after he threw money in bundles at them.

The crowd sang praise and victory songs to Mr. Ahmed ahead of Saturday polls.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the Governor was returning from Friday prayers before he set out to his home town where he is expected to vote.

"I got one thousand naira while the women got five hundred," one of the people who waylaid Mr. Ahmed said.

Meanwhile Ilorin is quite peaceful and the ?g?overnor has assured the people of the state of their security before, during and after the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.

Governor Ahmed said he received assurances from the Commissioner of Police and the heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of State Security and Civil Defence.

He said additional security personnel had been drafted from neighbouring states where there will be no gubernatorial elections to complement the efforts of the 9?,?000 officers already on ground in the state.

He said the ban on uniformed security officers accompanying individuals to polling booths on Election Day is still in force, adding any security personnel who violates the directive would be arrested immediately.

Mr. Ahmed also emphasised that the restriction of movement between 8 a.m -5 p.m. on Election Day. He urged the people to comply with the directive.
