Suspected Cultist in Court For possession of Firearm
A suspected cultist, Sadiq Muhammed Oladimeji has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly being in possession of firearm.
The accused was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearm and belonging to secret cult.
The accused was said to have on August 15, 2014 stormed the venue of the distribution of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) at Ile Alege Compound Pooling Unit, Isale Koto in Oke-Ogun Ward, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State and fired shots into the air with a locally made pistol, which made people to scramble for safety.
Police said that all effort to arrest the accused at the scene proved abortive.
However, based on security report, the accused was arrested on October 21, 2014 by the operatives of State Security Service (SSS) at the High Court premises, Ilorin, where he came to appear in a case of State vs. Olatunbosun Are and 27 others before Justice Titi Daibu.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the locally made pistol used on August 15, 2014 was recovered in the accused residence.
The FIR added that the accused committed the offences, which contravene Sections 97 of Penal Code Law, 3(i) of Robbery and Firearm Act and 11 of the Secret Cult and Secret Societies in Educational Institution (Prohibition), Law Cap S3, Law of Kwara State, 2006.
The prosecution objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody until the determination of the case.
Magistrate B.A. Gegele ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin and adjourned the case till November 17, 2014 for further mention.
