OPINION: Poli-tainment: The Latest Vogue In Town. By Anifowoshe Titilope
Every action or inaction of a reasonable Man is always backed by reasons . A reasonable man refers to a theoretical person in the society who shows average judgment, skill or care in his or her conduct . Everyone is presumed to be reasonable unless otherwise is proven. But is the same the case here in our society?
When has politics turned to the game of everybody? First it was the #30PercentorNothing issue (although that’s not the issue in question), now even those who handle the microphone to get us our bodies shaking to their rhythms also want to get a taste of the sweetness of the national cake.
That’s what I call Poli-tainment, “the politics of entertainers” although this kind of politics might be befitting for us in Nigeria, but I personally do not see any form of light at the end of this tunnel, all I see is a changed Nigeria; a Nigeria where youths emulate the culture of wearing five versace gold chains from the Senator representing their constituency, or the colour of an honourable member of the State House of Assembly’s tinted hair, a Nigeria where a youth who sees music more important than education will ironically have to provide education for us.
I am a lover of the Nigerian entertain but seriously ; this is getting out of hand. Leadership positions in Nigeria are now been treated tantamount to a lucrative business that is an alternative to the booming nollywood, comedy or naija Music industry. Gone are the days when people are driven by real and original zeal, passion and dream to lead people right and provide the required amenities for the populace. We all feign passion all because of the hard currency involved.
Individuality, reality, originality and ability is very different and divergent from agility, that we love your music or that you make us laugh or act well doesn’t mean that you are fit to represent or rule us! Even if you own ten oil wells, we want people that are truly ready to represent us in 2015, those that are capable and willing, does that are not in search of additional wealth and fame.irrespective of their political affiliation, or (legal) occupation.we are ready to vote for persons that are true leaders. If you think you are not just good on stage let’s see your manifesto and blue print and things you are capable of doing. Prove us wrong that you are not just in search of greener pastures
May God’s Will Be Done.
