Group partners CBN, others to train women, youth on agribusiness
About 400 women and youth in Kwara State are participating in a 21-day training on how to achieve sustainable Green Development and Income Generation through agribusiness.
The training was organised by the Islamic Green Club Empowerment Initiative, in conjunction with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values.
Coordinator of the foundation, Hajiya Bola Usman, said that the participants were selected from all the 193 wards of the state and would be trained on production, cultivation and packaging of rice, fishery and snail rearing.
At the end of the training, participants would be grouped into cooperatives to access the intervention fund of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The federal ministry of agriculture, the National Directorate of Employment and other private sector participants and trainers are involved in the project.
"We are interested in teaching the beneficiaries how to fish rather than giving them fish to eat," she said.
The Special Adviser to the President on Ethics Dr. Sarah Jubril applauded the initiative which she noted was in line with the President’s transformation agenda.
