Mrs Ahmed takes cancer campaign to Kwara communities
Wife of the Kwara State governor and founder of the LEAH Charity Foundation, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, has called for a reorientation in sexual behaviour as part of measures to reduce the spread of killer diseases.
Mrs. Ahmed made the call at the weekend when she opened LEAH cancer screening centres at Ero-Omo Health Centre, Offa Garage Area, Ilorin South LGA and Egbejila Primary Health Care Centre, Ilorin West LGA, Kwara State.
She said killer diseases including breast and cervical cancer have caused many unnecessary deaths and it was time to make critical decisions that would bring about a break from the erroneous mentality that civilization means the same thing as adopting a promiscuous life style.
According to her, a combination of factors including lifestyle modification in terms of curtailing unhealthy sexual activities will serve as a positive check in the crusade against killer diseases.
Further, the founder of the LEAH Foundation advised women to take seriously periodic breast and cervical checks, saying, early detection is key to preventing full blown cancer scourge.
She also urged the men to see medical examinations as an important health routine considering that prostate cancer is a threat to many lives.
Responding, the Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Alhaji Sulu Oloje, praised Mrs. Ahmed for the health campaigns and commended the efforts of the LEAH foundation in setting up screening centres across the State.
He implored the people to take advantage of the cancer centres to check their health status and seek appropriate remedial help where necessary.
The people received free medical checks and drugs from the LEAH medical team. Handbills and free LEAH CDs were distributed on the occasion.
The health campaign and opening of LEAH Cancer Screening Centres will be taken to 15 other communities in the State beginning from today.
