'300 Babies Born HIV-Free By Infected Mothers'
Over 300 HIV infected expectant mothers have so far delivered their babies free of the virus with the assistance of the HIV/AIDS management centre of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
This was disclosed by Professor Salami Kazeem while delivering a lecture at the university titled, "Realities of Living with HIV Infection".
Prof. Kazeem who specialises in HIV/AIDS research, lamented the increasing spread of the virus among married couples, noting that many people still engage in unprotected sex despite the current awareness campaigns.
According to him, 3.5million Nigerians are currently living with HIV/AIDS, making Nigeria the third most heavily infected after India and South Africa.
He however said the UITH HIV/AIDS clinical centre had successfully arranged 27 marriages between those already infected with the virus to curtail the spread.
