Man, 36, Held Over Rape of Six-Year-Old Girl

An Ilorin Magistrate's Court yesterday remanded a 36 year- old bricklayer, Segun Adewumi of Latinwo Area Omu-Aran for allegedly raping a six-old girl.

The prosecutor, Barrister Bello informed the court that on May 3, 2014, one Kayode Rachael of Ofe-Aran Omu-Aran, mother of the victim, reported at the divisional police headquarters, Omu-Aran, that while she was bathing her daughter, she discovered bruises in her private part.

"She added that upon interrogation, her daughter said the suspect took her to his house and raped her", the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor added that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Omu-Aran to Ilorin and that during investigation, it was gathered that the accused, Segun Adewumi, had canal knowledge of the victim.

The accused, Segun Adewumi, pleaded guilty to the charge and the magistrate ordered that he should be remanded at the Medium Prison, Mandala, and adjourned the case to May 28, 2014.
