Niger Republic citizens attacked by robbers in Kwara
Some nationals of the Republic of Niger, who were travelling home for farming season along the Ilesha – Baruba –Chicanda roads, in Baruten local government area of Kwara State have been attacked by suspected armed robbers.
An eyewitness disclosed that the Nigeriens, who occupied two coaster buses, were attacked between Ilesha –Baruba and Sinawu village, along the Nigerian border with the Republic of Benin.
One of the victims said that they suffered severe cuts and bullet wounds, stressing that the suspected gangsters succeeded in dispossessing them of their valuables and some amount of money.
The Nigerien explained that they were living in Lagos but decided to go home for the farming season, noting however, that no life was lost during the incident and that they had made an official report at the Okuta Divisional Police station.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relation Officer(PPRO), ASP Ajayi Okasanmi was not successful as he did not respond to calls made to his mobile phone.
