Kwara mediation centre resolves 1,000 cases
The Kwara Mediation and Concilliation Centre on Tuesday said it had resolved 1, 000 civil cases since its establishment in 2008.
The Acting Director of the centre, Mr Yekini Ayodele-Lawal, who made this known to newsmen in Ilorin, said that the figure was out of the 1,200 complaints it received during the period.
Ayodele-Lawal said also that 50 cases were abandoned by the complainants during the period.
He said so far, the centre had received 100 fresh complaints between January and March this year.
The director explained that the mediation centre was established to provide free legal services in civil cases to indigent persons in the state.
He said that the centre was collaborating with the Legal Aid Council and the Office of the Public Defendant where criminal and civil cases were transferred to for proper action.
Ayodele-Lawal disclosed that centre had established offices in Kosubosu and Kaiama, and plans to open another in Offa, to expand its services.
According to him, the centre will in due course open offices in all the local government areas in the state, to offer its services to people at the grassroots.
He commended former governor of the state, Sen. Bukola Saraki, for his foresight in establishing the centre.
The director said the centre was facing serious logistics challenges which had limited its efforts, adding that majority of people in the state lacked information on its activities.
Ayodele-Lawal, therefore, sought for the assistance of individuals and corporate organisations in creating awareness to enable more indigent persons access the centre’s services.
