Kwara APC accuses Jonathan of hypocrisy

Date: 2014-03-06

Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused President Goodluck Jonathan, saying it is hypocritical,  by saying that he visited the state to champion the freedom of the people from political and socio-economic oppression.

The party faulted Jonathan's statement, saying, "it is hypocritical for a President who coordinated the disqualification of an incumbent governor from participating in the state primaries for the governorship elections in Bayelsa State on 18th of November, 2011, to now pride himself as 'champion of freedom' to Kwarans".

Jonathan who visited the state alongside members of the Peoples Democratic Party (NWC) National Working Committee (NWC) to attend a rally for new members of the PDP, noted that he had never controlled his state governor, saying god-fatherism and imposition of candidates was over in PDP.

Reacting to Jonathan's remarks, the state APC in a statement by its interim publicity secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, said: "If the President in fact, does not care how his home state is being governed as he stated, how come he desperately imposed his lackey on the good people of Bayelsa State against all known democratic tenet".

It added that, "no matter how hard he tried to misinform Nigerians about the true situation of the polity in Kwara State, everyone knows that Kwarans are at the centre of our policies and programmes. The support we enjoy is an attestation".
The party noted that the state had not benefitted from voting Jonathan in 2011.

"The last time Mr President visited, he came to campaign for votes. Kwarans voted for him through the support of our leaders; Senator Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. Three years after, Kwarans expect commissioning of impactful federal projects and programmes not campaign for 2015 elections. PDP is a party of jesters.

"The correlation between those promises on 22nd of February 2011 and the reality now in Kwara State on service delivery is zero which can only secure a secondary school student F9 in any subject. If the PDP prides its strength in Kwara State on a crowd of majorly PDP members from Niger, Kogi, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos - goodluck to them. They will soon wake up to the reality," the APC stated.
