Press Release: PDP Insensitive to the Plight of Nigerians - Kwara APC

Date: 2014-03-04

The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and the Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has once again demonstrated to Nigerians and the whole world the high level of insensitivity attached to serious national tragedy that befell the country in the last seventy two hours which require sober reflection, and which needs urgent attention.

It is shameful to watch PDP in Kwara State on Monday, where the President, Vice President and top government functionaries abandoned issue of governance and matter of urgent importance for a mere political rally when thousands of Nigerians were mourning the senseless killing of their love ones few days ago, speaks volume about the character of the people at our helms of affairs of government .

This attitude indeed confirms the APC position that apart from rhetoric the President and his party has nothing new again to offer Nigerians. While the people of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa were still in shock and trauma occasioned   by the unabated blood letting that has almost become a daily occurrences   in their various domain, our President and his Vice with entourage from across the country chose Kwara State for an unpatriotic rally where they were busy singing and dancing on the graves of these innocent Nigerians whose future were abruptly brought to an end without no fault of theirs . If our president fall victim of this attack, will he be celebrating the dead at a party rally? Of course not.

As a leader and a party, one would have expected the President and the leadership of his party to have used the precious time to either visit the troubled and traumatised families in these areas of Northern region,  not only to condole them but to  give them  hope and sense of belonging. But instead President Jonathan has told Nigerians that political rally at this time  is of  importance  to him than the lives of the wasted future leaders of our dear country.

Even at the dawn of a new week, precisely the first working day of the week, when the President should afford himself the opportunity to ensure that, at least a step is taken ahead in resolving our common and pressing problems,  such have been abandoned for political rally in Kwara- which is the first presidential visit since he was voted in 2011.  No appreciation visit or privilege was granted to Kwara. What an abuse of office!

Unfortunately the so called decampees in which the PDP and the President chose to exhibit their insensitivity  and the clueless leaders were known oppositions in the state  who had never had any history of electoral victory. This is a fact President Jonathan too has confirmed. While then  abandoning these helpless Nigerians at this critical period that  they require the attention of their President whom their votes put him in the office as President.

The APC in Kwara condemns  this shameful act of  insensitivity and in human feelings demonstrated by the so called ruling party in its entirety and call on all and  sundry to reject this act of insensitivity come 2015.

While again we joined all those leaders and illustrious Nigerians that have been showing concern about the happenings on  the increasing insecurity in this part of the country, we urge the Federal Government to be more alive to its responsibility as we wish to remind the government that  it is when people are alive that they can cast votes therefore government should think more about the people’s survival rather than  wasting precious time and our dwindling resources on empty and irrelevant  politicians. The earlier the President and PDP realise that political rally and voting on election days are two different issue s altogether, the better for them.

As progressives, we remain unshaken and committed to serving the people whom we primarily represent.

Alhaji Sulyman Buhari
Interim Publicity Secretary, Kwara APC
