Court remands three motorcycle robbers
The accused, Akeem Jimoh, 25 of No. 27, Ikoyi Street, Ikere Ekiti; Babatunde Ojo, 28 of No. 55, Ikere Ekiti and Ajibade Deji, 18 of Ikere Ekiti, were dragged before the court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Prior to the arrest of the accused, one Tope Ashaolu of Oke-Apa Compound, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, had on May 5 reported at Divisional Police Headquarters, Omu-Aran, that while he was doing his okada work with his Bajaj motorcycle in Omu-Aran township, two boys came to hire him to Ipetu town at the rate of N150.
According to the complainant, on reaching Ipetu area, they asked him to stop and in the process of demanding for his money, two other men emerged from the bush with cutlasses and demanded the motorcycle’s key, which he refused.
He stated further that the suspected hoodlums started beating him and dispossessed him of the said motorcycle. He later escaped, while he alerted the vigilante men in Ipetu town.
The vigilante men were said to have trailed the bandits and shot one of them. The three accused were arrested, while Lekan Bamidele died as a result of the injury he sustained.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter during investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, a Suzuki vehicle with registration number ONDO XB 233 GKB was recovered from where they kept it.
The FIR added further that the accused and the deceased were the culprits that robbed the victim of his Bajaj motorcycle which was recovered from them.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Zaccheaus Folorunsho objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, to enable the police carry out detail investigation.
Magistrate A. Bello refused the bail of the accused but ordered that they should be remanded at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin.
The court adjourned the case till May 20 for further mention.
