Kwara Flags Off Construction of Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital Diagnostic Centre
The Kwara State Government has taken a major step towards overhauling its healthcare delivery system with the commencement of work on the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital Diagnostic Centre, a project expected to redefine access to modern medical diagnostics for residents.
At a brief handover ceremony in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam, officially transferred the project site to United Integrated Construction Ltd.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Saad Hamdalat, the handover witnessed the presence of senior government officials, including the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunshola, and other stakeholders.
Dr El-Imam said the initiative reflects a deliberate policy shift by the state government to prioritise early and accurate diagnosis as a cornerstone of effective healthcare.
"Diagnosis is at the heart of treatment. Without accurate and timely diagnosis, even the best medical interventions can fall short.
"What we are doing here is laying a solid foundation for a more responsive and efficient health system that serves the people better," the commissioner added.
She noted that the project goes beyond infrastructure, describing it as a strategic intervention designed to reduce the longstanding reliance on facilities outside the state for specialised tests.
"For too long, our people have had to travel outside Kwara for critical diagnostic services. This centre is intended to reverse that trend and bring those services closer to home," she said. Dr El-Imam explained that upon completion, the facility would operate within the Civil Service Clinic framework, offering a wide range of diagnostic services that would support both routine and specialised medical care.
"This centre will not only ease the burden on patients but will also empower our healthcare professionals with the tools they need to make informed clinical decisions," she added.
In his remarks, Dr Ogunshola underscored the importance of strict adherence to construction standards, assuring that the government would not compromise on quality or timelines.
"This project will be executed in accordance with approved specifications. We are committed to ensuring that what is delivered meets the highest standards in safety, durability, and functionality," he said.
"We will maintain close supervision to ensure that the contractor delivers as agreed," Ogunshola added.
Also speaking, a representative of the contractor, who simply identified himself as Mohammed, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the firm, pledging to deliver a project that meets expectations.
"We are honoured by this opportunity and fully aware of the responsibility it comes with.
"We assure the government and people of Kwara State that this project will be delivered on schedule and in line with the highest quality standards," he added.
When completed, the diagnostic centre is expected to function as a central hub for advanced medical testing, equipped with modern laboratory systems and imaging technologies to support the detection and management of a wide range of health conditions.
