Zakari Donates 25 Motorcycles, 2 Buses to PDP Ward Excos
CHAIRMAN House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Honourable Zakari Muhammed has presented two buses and 25 motorcycles he donated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairmen and local government executives in Baruten and Kaiama local government areas of Kwara State.
Hon. Mohammed, representing Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in Kwara State said he had strong belief that touching lives of party members should not be pegged or limited to election period.
"I believe that the party that produced me is PDP and I believe it is my own modest way of getting back to the party. Of course, our ward chairmen are very important when it comes to mobilisation at the grassroots. They played very vital role in my emergence and I believe that to keep the flag flying and to keep the party going, we need to, as a matter of fact, reach out to the grass roots and we can't do that without mobility. That's why we said every ward chairman in the two local governments will have a motorcycle to enable him move. Then, the bus is for the local government party executive members so that they can use that to, at least, assist them.
"What is very important in addition to all that we have been doing is to make the party strong and make itrelevant in the scheme of things," he said.
He also spoke on the deplorable condition of roads in Kaiama Local Government and gave hints of steps taken to get it into the federal budget
"As it is, we have Baruten/Kaiama road which is about 87 kilometrers. Last year, we were able to get it into the budget, about N99 million for the engineering design and drawing. This year, we are looking at the possibility of getting it back into the 2013 budget so that at least some parts of it will be awarded.
"Then the Kishi/Kaiama road, the state government actually wanted to award the project but we are looking at the limitation, it is a federal road. It has limitation," he declared.
