Adieu! Prof Mosobalaje Oyawoye, First African Professor of Geology passed on at 96.
I first learnt of Professor Oyawoye in 2014 when I went on a painstaking knowledge driven research and archiving of the doyens of many Academic fields, especially the first Professors in most popular fields of Learning in our Universities in Nigeria.
Prof Oyawoye is two of the first Professors in Africa from Kwara State, representing the good people of Offa land, a community known for their love for Education.
It's not surprising that Prof Mosobalaje is from that town. After Peacock & potatoes, Education is almost the next thing I know about Offa people. And one of first Educated Offas is Prof Mosobalaje, a pride to all Kwarans, and Offa sons and daughters.
The history of Offa is not complete without mentioning Emeritus Prof Mosobalaje Oyawoye when you get to that junction of Educational attainment, ditto for the field of Geology in Nigeria.
How you know big dons like this is when you pick journals and see citations and References.
The other First Professor from my list then who comes from Kwara among the old Professors is Emeritus Prof Muyiwa Awe, who is the first Nigerian Professor of Physics through the Premier University of Ibadan just like Oyawoye. Aw? is from Esie town in Kwara. PROF Aw? passed away in 2015 at 83.
The beautiful thing about these Scholars is how they passed away at an advanced age. What a gift of knowledge, accomplishment and long age!
At 96, what more can one pray for?
Sleep on Prof Jamiu Mosobalaje Oyawoye CON 1927 - 2023.
Wishing you Aljanah Fridaus and Eternal rest. One of the golden sons of Offa land is gone.
