IBB, Buhari, Abubakar, Ribadu, Others Pay Tribute to Saraki
Three former Heads of State, Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar, were among several other prominent Nigerians that paid glowing tributes to the late political icon and Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, yesterday, describing him as a man of honour and dignity, who dilligently served his people and country.
Babangida and Abdulsalami, who came to Ilorin together on condolence visit to the family of late Saraki, were accompanied by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, Alhaji Ndanusa and Ahmadu Abubakar.
General Buhari and former Speaker, Aminu Masari, came separately almost the same time with former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, among others.
They all described the death of Saraki as a great loss to the family and nation.
Meanwhile, former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion and the Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, have described the death of Saraki as a great loss to the medical profession and the country even as he urged the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State to immortalise him.
Enabulele said: "Dr. Olusola Saraki was a foremost medical doctor, politician, statesman and business man. He was a very dear, forthright and purposeful colleague.
"We most humbly request that the government of Kwara State to rename the State Government House or the State House of Assembly Complex after Dr. Olusola Saraki.
"We also urge the Federal Government to name a national monument after the elder statesman as a way of preserving his legacies."
IBB explained that when people ask for long life it is not to last for 1,000 years, but for people to continue to speak of your good deeds even after death.
Immediate past Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, who gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Saraki family, described the two former military Heads of State as great men of honour.
Mallam Ribadu, who said Nigerians should celebrate the life and times of late Saraki rather than grieve over the loss, said people should thank God for his life.
In his speech the eldest son of the deceased, Senator Bukola Saraki, thanked all the dignitaries who came to condole with them and assured that the legacies of his father would be sustained.
