Fire Guts Section Of Emir Of Ilorin's Palace
A section of the reception hall of the imposing palace of the Emir of llorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari, was gutted by fire on Tuesday night.
Palace sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the inferno occurred at about 8.00 p.m,
Eye witnesses said it took over an hour before the fire, which destroyed electrical appliances, furniture and other valuables worth millions of naira, was put out.
When NAN visited the palace on Wednesday, rubbles of the fire incident were being removed by staff of the palace.
NAN learnt that the inferno was triggered by an electrical fault.
Gambari, while reacting to the incident, described it as "an act of God."
He expressed appreciation to God that no life was lost in the inferno.
The monarch said the damaged portion of the reception hall would be repaired before the Eid- El-Kabir celebration on Oct. 26.
Meanwhile, the Kwara Government has sympathised with the emir over the incident.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, led a government delegation to pay a sympathy visit to the emir on Wednesday.
