KWARMA Resurfaces 69 Roads - Kannike
The Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) has rehabilitated 69 roads in the last one year, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Abubakar Amuda Kannike has said.
Kannike who briefed the state legislature on activities of his ministry in Ilorin weekend, said government had strengthened the agency's operation with prompt release of funds and modern equipment.
He said the agency has extended its operations to ll three senatorial districts to ensure motorable roads across the state.
The commissioner disclosed further that the present administration has awarded the construction and rehabilitation of 40 rural and feeder roads across the state.
These roads according to him are in the completion stage.
Speaking on the activities of fire service, he said the brigade had saved properties worth N1.4 billion between January and June this year.
The commissioner revealed that the brigade also attended to total number of 102 distress calls within the period.
To ensure prompt response to safety operation, he said the brigade had been well equipped with fire service equipment and personnel.
He said government has equally established one additional fire station in Offa and 10 officers were trained to man the station for effective operation.
Answering questions from the lawmaker, he said work will commence on Kaiama-Kishi road in the first quarter of next year.
He said government will soon go tough with illegal garages to bring sanity to their operation.
The Speaker, Barrister Razak Atunwa commended the commissioner for briefing the lawmakers on activities of his ministry.
