Kwara CP warns residents against accommodating strangers

Date: 2017-05-20

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusola Amore, has cautioned residents of state against harbouring and accommodating unknown people, saying such could become a security risk.

He explained that it could jeopardise security of lives and property.

Noting the influx of people into Kwara State, he stated that there was the need for people to be more security conscious.

He spoke while addressing representatives of traditional rulers, community leaders, Fulani herdsmen, farmers and other stakeholders in Ilorin, the state capital.

The CP said vigilance groups in the state would soon be re-organised. He stated that it was imperative for all stakeholders to collaborate to ensure security of lives and property.

He urged the public to adopt the alternative dispute resolution mechanism to address misunderstandings among themselves. He advised community leaders to form consultative fora and have regular meetings where they could nip violence in the bud.

"The government is trying to reorganise the vigilante teams and very soon, that will come into play. We called this meeting because of the recent incidence influx of strange people in Kwara State. Community members and leaders should see the danger in accommodating strangers just for monetary gains," he said.
