Local councils now well positioned to pay workers' salaries, says Ahmed
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has said the increase in the allocation to all tiers of government from the Federation Account, has made Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state better positioned to pay salaries of their workers and those of teachers.
Ahmed said: "the increased allocation is complemented by the growth in our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to ensure that the State government continues to meet salary obligations and funding for infrastructure. All projects stalled by funding challenges will resume shortly across the state", the governor said. He spoke during the swearing in of the Acting Grand Khadi of the State, Khadi Shehu Muhammad AbdulBaki at the Governor House Ilorin, noting that with the increase "the worst times are over for the workers".
On cultism in the state, the Governor said with the amended Anti-Cultism law in the state cultists would no longer have breathing space as the law would be implemented to the letter. According to him, the amendment has "strengthened the existing law on cultism by providing a maximum of 14-year jail term for anyone found guilty of cult related activities in the State."
He was of the view that the law would work effectively if parents, guardian and other members of society keep a closer eye on youths, remain vigilant and report unusual behaviors and movements to security agencies.
"Let there be no doubt about it, we will make Kwara State unwelcome for those involved in this nefarious act by enforcing the Anti-cultism law, as amended to the letter. It is our determination that this will also bring an end to cultism in Kwara State" he said.
He urged the new Grand Khadi to conduct himself in a manner that would enhance the organized human relations, and ensure strong institutions and good governance.
The acting Grand Khadi, Justice Shehu AbdulBaki pledged to live to the expectation of not only the appointing authority but also the people of the State, promising that his administration would be premised on transparency, prudence, integrity, honesty, dedication and the fear of God.
