Rector Urges Govt to Harness Other Resources to Boost Economy

Date: 2016-02-10

The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu has urged government at all levels to harness other resources especially in the mining sector in order to boost the country's economy.

Elelu stated this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital at the weekend when the National Executives of the Nigerian Mining and Geo-Science Society paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

According to him, with the current fall in the price of crude oil, attention must be shifted to other mineral resources that God has endowed the country with.

He noted that apart from agriculture, mining is another sector where government can generate money and create employment for the youths.

He said that members of the society had a vital role to play in the campaign for the mining sector to get a boost from the government.

Elelu however lauded the society for the various achievements recorded so far, urging them to assist the Polytechnic in whatever capacity it can especially in the areas of teaching aids.

He also pledged the Polytechnic's support for the society's forthcoming conference, which comes up later in the year.

Earlier in his address, the president of the society, Prof. Gbenga Okunlola disclosed that the visit was part of the programmes lined up for the annual conference.
