Kwara Poly Student Arrested for Raping His Social Media Friends

Date: 2015-12-18

Police detectives in Lagos have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly raping his five social media friends. The police said the suspect, Adeposi Adejoyin, is an ND 2 student of Kwara Polytechnic.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni told journalists in Lagos that the suspect allegedly raped five girls he met on social media between April and June 2015.

Owoseni said a police team from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was put on the trail of the suspect after he was identified by some of his victims.

The Lagos police boss stated that the suspect met all his victims on social media, adding that after weeks of online chatting, he used to invite them for a timeout.

According to him, the suspect would travel all the way from Kwara to meet his victim in Lagos at an agreed hotel. He said that after entertaining his guests, the suspect would drug his victim before raping them.

Owoseni added that after raping them, Adejoyin would then dispossessed his victims of their valuables. He said: "The sexual assault cases were reported this year in April, and June. In every case, he fled, leaving the victims at the spot."

The suspect's parents, who believed that their son was in school, were shocked to see him in police net. His mother, a middle aged woman, broke down in tears after hearing the victims recounted their ordeals.

The Lagos police boss said: "After fulfilling legal formalities, he would be taken to court to ascertain his involvement in other cases of assault on girls." But the suspect alleged that all his victims were commercial sex workers, whom he met on instagram.

Though, he admitted fleeing with his victims' belongings, he said that all his victims were caught in his net based on the mouthwatering amounts he usually offered to pay them during their online chatting.

He said: "The girls are all runs girls whom I met on instagram. During our discussions, I do offer to pay them between N100,000 to N200,000.

"After we had agreed on the amount to be paid, we will fix a date and venue. On the assigned date, I will equip myself with some cash with which I entertain them.

"After eating and drinking, we would retire into a room. I will search their bags when I notice that my guest is sleeping, removing all valuable items such as phones, iPads, laptops and cash. After which I will sneak out, leaving them behind.

"To me, it is a game and I started it sometime in April and between then and now, I had slept with three different girls." On how he was arrested, the student said that it was his fourth victim that gave him away.

"I never knew that my fourth victim is a friend to my three other victims. It was she who told her friends of our intended date.

"They reported the matter to the police, who were on ground at our agreed venue. So by the time I arrived the place, I just walked into the net."

The man, who said he was sorry for what he had done, added that he could hang himself for bringing shame to his parents.

"For the first time in my life, I could not look my mum in the face when they came to look for me. My parents live in Lagos. I cannot imagine same thing happening to any of my sisters," he said.
