Children's Day: Ahmed seeks end to violence
Governor Ahmed, in a message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahaab Oba, to commemorate 2012 Children's Day, noted that the continuous exposure of children to violence of different forms posed danger not only to children, but the nation as a whole, adding that children were vital link in the chain of continuity of the Nigerian nation.
The governor also advised parents, guardians and other stakeholders to use the period of the celebration to encourage their children to imbibe core values of sanctity of life rather than foreign values that had virtually eroded the nation's heritage of communal well- being.
The governor reiterated his desire to ensure adequate job and wealth creation, promote youth entrepreneurship through support for micro, small and medium scale enterprises and develop youth capacity with skill acquisition and vocational training in other to positively engage the youth and check restiveness.
He stressed the need for governments at all levels to create enabling environment for the institutions of learning that would ensure their products were well equipped to become agents of change in the country.
Parents and guardians, Governor Ahmed said, should encourage their wards to also learn Nigerian languages instead of the present imperious crave for English language as educationists had proved beyond doubt that a child developed better through the use and mastery of his/her mother tongue.
