N 5bn Libel suit: Belgore to testify June 8

Date: 2012-05-16

Kwara State Action Congress of Nigeria's gubernatorial candidate, Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN), will on June 8 testify in the defamation suit brought by Senator Bukola Saraki over the Kwara 2011 elections at an Abuja High Court. Belgore, who was to be examined on Tuesday, could not make it and his counsel, N.O. Akangbe informed the court that he was away in Ilorin on another matter he is involved in. Consequently, Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umaar adjourned the case to June 8 for trial. Saraki, the former governor of the state, had approached the court through the chambers of Festus Keyamo demanding N5 billion as damages following alleged "libellous" and "defamatory" comments by Belgore in page 14 of ThisDay Newspaper of July 16, 2011.
