Three students, one other cheat death in Unilorin autocrash
Three undergraduate students of the University of Ilorin and a commercial driver yesterday escaped death in a car crash that occurred at the permanent site of the institution.
The incident, which occurred around 9:15am, a few metres away from the school Dam Site, was said to have been caused as a result of over-speeding while the driver of Volkswagen Golf car in which the students were being commuted was trying to overtake another car.
It was learnt that one of the tyres of the car removed during the over-speeding, which later resulted into the vehicle summersaulting twice while the occupants sustained minor injuries.
City Rove gathered that the injured were immediately rushed to the University clinic for prompt medical attention.
Our reporter observed that the incident caused traffic snarl on campus as vehicles coming into the campus at the time of the incident, had brief difficult time before passing away from the scene.
The ill-fated car was later evacuated from the main road to allow free flow of traffic.
When contacted, the Deputy Director, Directorate of Corporate Affairs of the University, Mr Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident, saying that some of the occupants who sustained injuries in the crash had been treated at the school clinic.
Akogun warned motorists plying the campus against reckless driving, just as he urged them to consider other road users.
