Political appointments based on geographical location not on religious sentiments - Ahmed

Date: 2013-09-21

Appointment of political office holders in the State is purely on geographical location and not based on religious sentiments. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed disclosed this while speaking on his monthly edition of a live programme, “The Governor Explains”.

He said the appointment does not have any religious undertone, saying those appointed into various offices were those forwarded to government by the respective localities.

Reacting to allegation from the state branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that Christians were being marginalised in political appointments, the governor advised Kwarans not to allow themselves to be dragged into religious controversy.

The Governor added that Kwara State is peopled by different ethnic groups, saying that the yardstick for appointment into political offices was largely based on senatorial district arrangement.

Governor Ahmed said Kwara has never used religion as basis for appointment before and it would never do so as the focus of government is to run an inclusive administration that will accommodate all, irrespective of religion, ethnic or political affiliation.

He appealed to the people of the State to join hands with the government in order to enable it achieve its set goals and objectives of moving the state to the next level in governance.

Governor Ahmed said the Kisi-Kaiama road project was one of the priority of government as the state government was waiting for the approval of the federal government, for its commencement.

He said Jebba-Ilorin road, Kabba-Eruku road and Ajasse-Ipo-Offa-Erin-Ile road, are currently receiving attention both by the State and federal government towards their total rehabilitation, to boost the economic activities of the people.
