Democracy Day: Rebirth of Good Governance in Our Motherland - Bukola Saraki

Date: 2015-05-29

Today, I join millions around the world to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo on their inauguration. Additionally, I join Nigerians both home and abroad to celebrate the rebirth of good governance in our motherland.

As President Buhari has said on numerous occasions, today, Nigeria proceeds into an era where business as usual, will no longer be 'business as usual'. Under this administration, Nigerians can expect to witness the true meaning of 'a people's government' – because truly, this government was borne out of the hard work and resilience of Nigerians across our great federation.

Undoubtedly, as we formally transition into this new administration, it is no secret that expectations are high, and everyone wants to see this APC-led government get down to the task of nation building after many years of the gradual deterioration of our central executive government. However, as excited as we all are, we must tamper our expectations with the mindset that nation building starts with the individual first, the immediate community next, and the nation last.

What this means is that as the new government takes office, it is our role as everyday citizens to contribute to the success of this administration by supporting it wholeheartedly with our prayers and our expectations. President Buhari and Vice-President Osibanjo have demonstrated that they are ready, willing, and able to take on the arduous task of governing this nation that is ahead.
