Deputy Speaker, Siblings Fingered In Kwara Violence
Traditional ruler and leaders Jebba community in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State are accusing the Deputy Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Okedare and two of his siblings of being behind the Sallah-day violence in the community, in which no fewer than three people lost their lives and 12 others sustained varying degree of injuries.
The community leaders, while accusing the lawmaker and his other sibling, claimed that the Sallah day violence was targeted at Alhaji AbdulKadir Adebara, Oba of Jebba, soon after the Eid prayer in front of his palace.
They claimed that the assailants rode in an 18-seater bus with two motorcycles and allegedly had in their possession fully loaded guns, spears, arrows and machetes. They brought some of the arms allegedly recovered from the suspects as well as pictures of the 'recovered' weapons from the suspects to a news briefing in Ilorin, the state capital.
Apart from the Deputy Speaker, the other two siblings mentioned by the community leaders at the press conference yesterday were the Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Simon Okedare, and the Principal Government Secondary School, Jebba Mr. Kayode Okedare.
Spokesman for the community's traditional council and the Gbobaniyi of Jebba, Chief Jaiyeola Omotosho, who addressed newsmen along with Chief Yakubu Ayodele, Asoju-Oba of Jebba and Chief Emmanuel Tytler, Otun-Oba of Jebba, allegedly claimed that the Okedares were bent on disrupting the peace of the community in their bid to see one of them installed as Oba of Jebba.
But the Deputy Speaker yesterday denied the allegation of sponsoring the hoodlums, who allegedly attempted to assassinate the Oba of Jebba, Alhaji Alabi Aderara, during the last Eid -El- Fitr celebration. Okedare told newsmen in Ilorin that he left Jebba on the day of incident at about 10.45am and was only alerted about the fracas at about 1.00pm.
