Democracy Day: Ahmed calls for unity
Nigerians have been called upon to use the occasion of this year's Democracy Day, which marks 13 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria, to celebrate those things that unite the country rather than fan the embers of disunity and disaffection.
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, made the call in a Democracy Day message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba.
Ahmed said Nigerians should at all times, irrespective of socio-religious differences, promote values that will deepen democratic culture in the country since it is accepted that the worst form of democratic government is better than any other form of government.
Ahmed noted that as stakeholders, all Nigerians must work for national unity and the promotion of best practices that would enhance the dignity of man as Nigeria is the pride of the blackman worldwide.
Ahmed also advised political office holders at all levels to be more responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of their people in the true spirit of democratic and purposeful governance.
