Press Release - Town-Hall Meeting: Governor Ahmed Not Breaching The Law

Date: 2014-08-03

We refer to Kwara PDP's latest attempt to combat the high-flying Ahmed administration with frivolous allegations and hereby make the following clarification.

As a firm believer in the rule of law, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed remains compliant with the laws of the land including those guiding elections and their conduct. It is therefore totally untrue that the Ahmed administration is breaching electoral laws by organising Town-hall meetings.

We reject this allegation as the new instalment in the opposition party's panicky effort to malign the high performing Ahmed administration through falsehood. To educate Kwara PDP, our town-hall meetings are feedback mechanisms designed by the APC administration to promote participatory governance by rendering stewardship and seeking the peoples' views about government programmes. Accordingly, the meetings have been attended by stakeholders including students, market women, teachers, the clergy, community leaders, non-indigenes and other non-partisan groups who are driven by a quest to join hands with government to make Kwara better.

Indeed, PDP is the one contravening electoral rules while playing ostrich as evidenced by its leadership's rallies in the North West and North Central, the town hall meetings by one of it's governors during which the subject of his successor was freely discussed and the opposition party's campaigns by subterfuge.

We sympathise with the clearly alarmed Kwara PDP who, overwhelmed by Governor Ahmed's rising popularity and pan-Kwara endorsements, has resorted to double standards and disinformation including politicising the dreaded Ebola virus in a futile campaign to revive it's flagging position in Kwara politics.

Dr MUIDEEN AKOREDE, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Communications, Government House,Ilorin.
