Kwara Assembly demands probe of state auditor general
Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday recommended that the state’s Auditor General, Mr Adeyeye Samuel, be investigated by the appropriate authority for allegedly clearing 54 Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government without the knowledge of the Public Accounts Committee of the assembly.
The recommendation was part of the resolutions read by the Speaker, Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, during plenary.
The resolution was sequel to the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Public Accounts on the report of the Auditor-General on the accounts of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state in respect of queries raised for the year ended December 31, 2019.
The report was presented by the committee’s chairman, Saheed Popoola (Ojomu/ Balogun State Constituency) and was considered at the Committee of Whole.
In the eight-point resolutions, the assembly directed “that the Auditor-General of Kwara State, Mr. Adeyeye O. Samuel, be further investigated by the appropriate authority for clearing the 54 MDAs without the knowledge of the Public Accounts Committee of the House;
It also urged “all MDAs to henceforth respond to audit queries within the stipulated time to avoid being sanctioned and urged the state government to release fund requested in respect of audit fees in good time to avoid activities of the state Auditor-General being paralysed.
“That in line with Section 30 Sub-Section 3 of the Kwara Investment Promotion Agency Law, 2020, having denied the state Auditor-General access to the accounts of the Bureau for auditing purposes, we urge the state government to set up a panel to probe the activities of the defunct Kwara State Public Private Partnership Bureau.”
It also invited the management of Kwara State Fadama III Project to appear on the floor of the House of Assembly to defend the queries raised against it.
