Oladosu urges Muslims to reflect on decline of clerics
The Chief Imam of University of Ilorin and former Director, Centre for Ilorin Studies, Professor Abdulganiyy Abdulsalam Oladosu has urged Nigeria Muslims to reflect deeply on the decline of Islamic clerics in the country.
The university don noted that as the nation is witnessing the death of many of these righteous clerics, the nation’s values continue to depreciate.
Oladosu, who stated this in his lecture, during the fidau for the late third Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sofiullahi Kamaldeed Al-Adabby, held at the deceased’s family house, Okekere, Ilorin, reminded Muslims that death was an inevitable end of all mankind.
Oladosu said those in position of authority should realise that power is transient and that no position is permanent.
He said: “When the third Mufti was being turbaned, it was at this same venue that I said we should not jubilate. At the peak of your success, you don’t jubilate; you don’t go singing, you don’t go dancing; the first thing you do is to glorify Allah and seek His forgiveness. Anything that is devoid of Allah is nothing”.
The university don challenged the Muslim Ummah to see the death of the late mufti as moment of sober reflection and ponder over the declining number of eminent Islamic clerics and scholars in the town, which according to him was also responsible for loss of values in the community.
Oladosu charged the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Salihu, to raise a team that will always monitor the preaching of Islamic clerics in the state and reprimand those preaching wrong values.
The fidau was attended by many dignitaries, including the state governor,Alhaji Abdulfatai Ahmed, his predecessor and senator representing Kwara central senatorial district, Dr. Bukola Saraki, chairman, Federal Character Commission, Professor Shu’aib Oba Abdulraheem, pioneer chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC),Justice Mustapha Akanbi.
