UNILORIN Freshers Told to be More Focused in Academics
A member of the University of Ilorin governing council, Prof. AbdulRasheed Adeoye, has advised the newly admitted students of the institution to be more focused on their studies to achieve good grades at the end of their academic careers.
Adeoye gave the advice while speaking at the orientation programme organised for the new students of Osun State origin in the institution, under the aegis of Osun State Students (NAOSS), UNILORIN Chapter.
The orientation with the theme ‘Balance Between Academic Excellence and Capacity Building’ was aimed at equipping the newly admitted students with the required information, mindset and admonition to achieve academic excellence whilst in the university.
He also urged them to put in as much effort to ensure that they prioritise their academic pursuits and shun all actions that may prevent them from achieving their academic goals.
Adeoye said they should see their admission into the citadel of learning as an opportunity and be more committed to their studies.
The don, who stated that the institution has qualified lecturers and all other facilities that can assist them in achieving their academic goals, added that they should use the institution’s good academic environment to enable them to be good ambassadors in the near future.
He also called on the students to be and do and work harder to achieve higher academic results at the end of their academic pursuits.
Also speaking at the event, the patron of the association and the former Director of the Bureau of Communications in Osun State, Semiu Okanlawon, urged the students to be focused and serious and do away with distractions of any form that may hinder them from achieving academic excellence.
“Have your eyes on the ball and do not entertain any form of distractions that are capable of affecting your academic performance,” said Okanlawon. “Those of you who are the leaders of the association, I want to congratulate you for even volunteering to be a part of this effort. It is a noble thing to offer yourself for leadership positions.”
